Graphenea has upgraded their mGFET line of products with a built-in reservoir for liquids. This enhancement provides for unprecedented ease of use for biosensing and implementation in clinical testing and rapid screening.
The mGFET product line is designed to minimize barriers to adoption of graphene as a biosensor. The product was launched at the same time as the Graphenea Card, a socket for housing the mGFET and interfacing with measurement electronics. The addition of the built-in reservoir lets the user focus on the biochemistry, without worrying about producing the graphene or the sensor, or about interfacing.
The mGFET has passivated metal contact pads to avoid degradation and reduce leakage currents. The product comes in two versions: mGFET-4D with high-K dielectric passivation, and mGFET-4P with polymer passivation. The passivation has been tested against common solvents such as acetone and DMF, showing good chemical stability. The chip also includes a non-encapsulated electrode at the chip center, allowing for liquid gating without the need of an external gate electrode. This device architecture enhances signal-to-noise ratio and reduces parasitic effects.
It has become common knowledge that graphene is of high interest as a biosensing material, due to its specificity, reproducibility, stability, sensitivity and linearity. The mGFET makes the most of these properties at an affordable price, which, together with the mentioned high integration and ease of use, makes this product the ultimate development tool for microbiology labs.
