Fast Graphs: Fast Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing with Graphene Sensors

SoundCell, Graphenea and Lambda-X proudly announce they have been awarded a prestigious Eurostars grant as part of the European Partnership on Innovative SMEs, co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program. This transformative funding will support the company’s pioneering project, Fast Graphs: Fast Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing with Graphene Sensors, aimed at delivering rapid diagnostic solutions for antibiotic resistance.

The Fast Graphs project will span two years, during which SoundCell will work in close collaboration with leading SMEs across Europe. The project’s core goal is to harness graphene sensor technology to develop faster and more accurate tests for antibiotic susceptibility, helping healthcare providers quickly and effectively combat antimicrobial resistance a pressing global health issue.

The total project cost is 2 million euros, with half of this amount subsidized by the European funding. "This initiative involves key European partners, including Graphenea from Spain and Lambda-X from Belgium, ensuring a cross-border approach to innovation," said Irek Roslon, founder and CEO of SoundCell.

“We are thrilled to be part of the Fast Graphs project and be able to contribute towards the commercialization of graphene in healthcare solutions and address a global health challenge. Our primary goal is to scale up the fabrication of graphene that will enable this technology”, said Amaia Zurutuza, CSO of Graphenea.

The Eurostars funding will empower SoundCell to conduct essential trials in clinical settings, validate the effectiveness of its graphene-based devices, and accelerate the journey towards commercialization. SoundCell’s innovative approach aims to provide healthcare systems with a robust solution to detect antibiotic resistance in record time, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

"We are honored to receive this Eurostars grant, which will enable us to bring the potential of our graphene technology closer to everyday use in hospitals. This funding is a testament to our team’s dedication and will, significantly accelerating our development, allowing us to make a meaningful impact on global health through faster diagnostic tools," said Roslon.

SoundCell, Graphenea and Lambda-X invite stakeholders, partners, and the public to follow the progress of the Fast Graphs project as the company works towards creating healthcare solutions that address today's medical challenges. Stay tuned for updates on our social media channels as we strive to reshape the future of health technology.
